Who We Are
Association of Ukrainian Canadian Immigration Consultants – RCIC-UA
Ukrainians started to immigrate to Canada in the late 1800s. Many came to escape poverty and political persecution in their homeland. Ukrainian Canadians make up one of the largest ethnic groups in Canada. In total, there are more than 1.2 million Ukrainian Canadians living in Canada.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, many Ukrainians decided to immigrate to Canada. Canada is one of the most popular destination countries for Ukrainian immigrants. In recent years, the number of Ukrainians immigrating to Canada was only a few thousand every year.
Canadian Ukrainians greeted the Euromaidan Revolution in 2013-2014 with open arms. They saw it as a step towards democracy and closer ties with the West. Many Canadian Ukrainians decided to help those who were protesting by sending them care packages, raising money, or travelling to Kyiv to participate in the protests.
Unfortunately, in response to Euromaidan, in 2014, the Russian Federation invaded and annexed Crimea and started a hybrid war in eastern Ukraine through its proxies.
On February 24, 2022, Russia started the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Russian military took control over several areas of Ukraine. Heavy bombings, war crimes against Ukrainians, and destruction of the civil infrastructure resulted in a massive escape of Ukrainians to various countries.
In response to the war, the Canadian government launched the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET), a special measure to allow Ukrainian nationals and their family members to find temporary shelter in Canada. As of November 4, 2022, Canada already admitted over 112,000 Ukrainians. The Immigration Department has received almost 663,000 applications from Ukrainians and their family members and has approved about 55% of them.
Such an enormous number of Ukrainians makes them one of the largest immigrant groups in Canada. Unfortunately, many of them are easy targets for immigration fraud.
With the beginning of the full-scale war, our group of Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants of Ukrainian origin united to volunteer to help fellow Ukrainians find a safe haven in Canada.
The reason for the creation of the Association of Ukrainian Canadian Immigration Consultants is to ensure that Ukrainians interested in coming to Canada for a temporary or permanent stay receive trustworthy and legal advice and services while protecting them from unprofessional and unauthorized immigration representatives. Moreover, we plan to combine efforts and lobby for the interests of Ukrainian immigrants with critical government and public stakeholders.
We genuinely believe that a large part of Ukrainian resettlers will return home after Ukraine’s victory and its territory’s liberation. Yet, many families will decide to stay in Canada permanently. Our goal is to protect their interests and provide them with professional assistance.
God bless Canada and Ukraine!
